Street in Old Town by collage artist Megan Coyle

Artwork featured in Art Calendar

One of my cityscape collages, "Street in Old Town" (the one that depicts a red pick-up truck), has been featured in Art Calendar's September issue alongside a letter where I discuss my first solo exhibition and my experience working as an artist.

Art Calendar is a business magazine for artists. The following is a description about the magazine from Art Calendar's website:

"Art Calendar is the industry’s foremost business magazine for visual artists. Founded in 1986, Art Calendar acts as a beacon to guide artists on their journey toward making a living with their art."

"Best described as “The Artist’s Guide to Making It,” Art Calendar is the only subscription-driven, business-oriented magazine published specifically for visual artists. There are no “how-to-paint” articles — Art Calendar readers have already found their voice and established their own unique style. Art Calendar enables professional artists to make a living doing what they love, providing them with fresh and innovative ideas, along with the all of the necessary tools to sell their work and further their careers. Offering professional artists more than any other art publication, Art Calendar has established itself as the ultimate resource for visual artists."

Art Calendar is available in most Barnes & Noble stores.

Current Exhibition: "Art in City Hall: Our Town"

Two of my collages, "Street in Old Town" (the same piece featured in Art Calendar) and "Torpedo Factory," are currently on display in Alexandria's City Hall until January 8th, 2010 - so you have plenty of time to swing by the exhibition before it ends. The exhibition focuses on images of Alexandria and artwork about Alexandria.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and the exhibition is not open during City holidays.

New Etsy Artwork

I recently created several small collages for my Etsy shop, which include a purple "Lounging Panda," a duck named "Mr. Quackers," "Blue Beaver," "Red Panda," and another "Blue Barack Obama" piece.

My next mini collages will focus on more animals inspired by my visits to the National Zoo in D.C., as well as political figures and seasonal still life (like squash and pumpkins).

Studio Update

About a year ago, I had a goal of getting a new work of art up in a group exhibition every month. Now I've decided to focus more on making artwork for future solo exhibitions. I have plenty of projects in mind and not enough time in the day to complete them all, so I've decided to change gears a bit. This means that my email updates might not be every month like they were in the past, although I'll make sure to send out an email for important news, new artwork posted on my website, and if I decide to enter any upcoming group exhibitions

At the moment, I've been fairly busy with my solo exhibition work for July 2010. I'm also at work making mini collages for my online store, where I'm planning to post a new collage for sale every week.

So until my next email update, you can follow my work by visiting my blog where I post several entries a week with photos of my collage progress and finished artwork.

That's everything for now, I hope you have a great weekend!
